Due to increasing digitalization and complexity combined with ever-shorter implementation timelines, system simulation plays a vital role. With the right simulation environment, it is possible to test a system in advance, either completely virtually or in a hybrid setup with real hardware components. Through the seamless integration of simulation and S7 program blocks, issues and errors in the digital layer of the system can be identified and resolved before commissioning – reducing testing effort and saving both time and money.
To enable more efficient engineering, we worked with Siemens to develop the Library for Tunnel and Traffic (LTT) for TIA Portal V17, WinCC OA 3.18, and SIMIT V11. The library includes blocks for the most common tunnel components such as fans, lighting, barriers, and sensors. It consists of:
The TIA library, the SIMIT components, and the WinCC OA types are all available as open-source resources and can be extended and/or modified as needed.
As a showcase, a tunnel model was developed in collaboration with Siemens and exhibited at SPS 2022 . The model contains three sectors: the first sector was implemented using real hardware, while the remaining sectors are simulated using SIMIT Unit.
